Baseball Heroes to Host “Legends Game” to Benefit Children with Autism

By Anonymous

August 12, 2004 -- On Saturday September 18th, QSAC (Quality Services for the Autism Community) will join with former Major League Baseball Players and other great celebrities to host a “Legends of Baseball” fundraiser at Citibank Park in Central Islip (rain date is September 19th). Tickets to the game are only $10 per person and all proceeds from the event benefit programs and services for children and adults with autism.

Some of the baseball legends that are scheduled to appear that day include Bud Harrelson, John Doherty, Jerry Grote, Art Shamsky, Chuck Schilling, Fred Cambria, Ross Moschitto, Logan Crawford, John Habyan, Ed Kranepool, Dom Scala, Fred Valentine, and Lee Smith to name a few.

The legend game’s title sponsor is “Suffolk County National Bank” and a youth baseball clinic is being sponsored by 1-800-LAWYERS, Ferro, Kuba, Bloom, Mangano, Gacovino, & Lake, P.C. The youth clinic will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on September 18th whereby children between the ages of 7 and 14 can receive baseball tips and secrets directly from former major league players. The youth clinic can only accommodate 200 children so all who are interested must pre-register by calling 718-7-AUTISM, ext. 16.

The Honorary Chairman for the event, Bud Harrelson, announces that the gates will open at 4:30 PM and batting practice will begin at 5:00 PM in Citibank Park, home of the Long Island Ducks. Bud Harrelson will be hosting a “Home Run Hitting Contest” whereby everyday players can test their skills against former Major League players.

The official media sponsors for this event are B103 Radio and News 12. If you would like to purchase tickets to this event, take part in the home-run hitting contest, or register for the baseball youth clinic, please call 718-728-8476, ext. 16 or 516-625-0091.
